2010 Chin Length Short Hairstyles for Black Women

For women, there are certain face shapes which just look better with short, cropped hair. If you've always worn your black hair long or in its natural state, why not try and have your locks cut short?

The good thing about wearing short hair is that they are ultra-low maintenance when it comes to styling. You do, however, need to keep it trimmed almost on a monthly basis if you want to maintain the length which looks best on your face.

But when it comes to the daily maintenance of shorter hair, you only need to spend a few minutes on styling. You might even get away with just putting some mousse on and styling it every which way - so that you can have that just-out-of-bed look which is ultra-sexy.

How about Short Hair Styles for Black Women?

Now that you already have an idea about the multitude of benefits that you will get to enjoy by keeping your locks cropped, what exactly are the short hair styles for black women that you can choose from? If you think that you'll look the same in all the pictures that you will post on social networking sites because there are only a couple of styles that you can do with short hair, think again.

Take a look at our list of shorter styles for black women that you will absolutely fall in love with:

Spiky hair style

If you're at an age where you can get away with the ultra-glam rock look, then you may want to go for black women. You can either do the styling yourself or have a stylist do it for you when you're attending a special event. As the name implies, you will be wearing spikes which will be kept up with the use of either a hairspray, gel or styling mousse.

Ultra-sleek and straight

Now, if your hair is not that cropped close to the scalp but is not long enough to reach your shoulder, then you may want to go with the ultra-sleek look.

You can either use a straightening iron to temporarily straighten your wavy or curly locks, or you can have it chemically treated for the style to be semi-permanent.

Natural looking trends

How about natural-looking short hair styles for black women? If you have short hair which you keep in its natural state, you almost do not have to do anything with it, just keep it moisturized and conditioned regularly to maintain its soft, natural look.

Curly or wavy

Halle Berry often wears a curly, wavy design which has a layered cut. You can either wear such a style straight, or give it a run with a curling iron for a softer look.

Short Afro or twists

Finally, the easiest length of hair to wear in a short Afro style or twists is extremely short cuts. You can stylize your look by wearing huge earrings as accessories.

Black Hairstyles - Top Styles for Today's Black Hair

Today's Black Hairstyles have increased in pretty design
& diversity thanks to new formulations in black hair products allowing hair to maintain strength, reduce breakage & maintain moisture.

Long, short, & wavy hairstyles have pushed their way to "center stage" with increased functionality & beauty. Hair extensions, coloring, straightening are now made increasingly possible with advanced designs & proper hair care.

What is new in Black & African American Hairstyles

Smoothing & straightening with African American hair products has become less damaging thanks to products containing Jojoba Oil. Mineral oil, used for years to tidy & moisturize, is damaging to hair follicles. Jojoba oil has made intense styling more safe without as much risk of breakage or hair fall. Straightening, relaxing, perming & highlighting permit for some pretty designs & the risk of harmful over-styling is becoming reduced.

Women's hairstyles have become more diverse with longer, wavier cuts becoming most popular in 2008. Thanks to Beyonce & numerous celebrities, smooth, silky & wavy designs are the look. For those of you with shorter hair, don't despair. The same techniques used for long hair apply equally to short hair as well.

For men, the short & tight look of the past few years is subsiding. Short, but more natural styles are coming on the scene with lengths from 1/2 inch to one inches most popular. Moisturizing conditioners, styling aids & periodic use of clarifying shampoos has allowed hair styles to maintain their luster & shine without depleting moisture.

Braids & dreadlocks continue to be the style for longer hair, but quick hair growth or extensions (or growing your hair a very long time) are necessary.

Black & African American hair is dense & its molecular cell structure is compact. This leads to dryness. Sebaceous glands at the hair root emit sebum (oil) which is inhibited not only by the thickness of the scalp follicles, but by the often kinky or tightly wound nature of black hair.

Keys to maintaining healthy Black Hair

Moisture can come from within - drinking lots of fluids, maintaining a healthy diet of raw vegetables & fruits, avoiding moisture depleting styling, or hydration can be topically applied externally with rinse-out & leave-in conditioners & moisture shampoos.

Oils are unable to coat the follicle as efficiently therefore dryness, breaking & product build-up are common. Infusing moisture is the key to maintain healthy hair enabling advanced hairstyles.

Historically several years, one ingredients have emerged from manufacturers that have helped dramatically improve black hair products. Four, LusterPlex, an active ingredient in lots of hair products, has been shown to greatly enhance the shine, sheen, silkiness & manageability of black hair care. Used primarily in shampoos & conditioners, it was originally formulated to add shine to long, smooth hair.

Advances in Black Hair Products

One, Jojoba Oil has now taken its rightful place as a replacement for mineral oil. Often used to aid in styling, cleansing or to add hydration, mineral oil leads to damaged follicles & thinning. Jojoba oil naturally deep cleans & hydrates & leaves hair stronger while effectively removing dirt & product build-up that often lead to flakes & flaking.

As often is the case with lots of products or ingredients, it found uses far more diverse. In studies it's been shown to improve tensile strength, strengthening weak or breaking hair, & greatly increasing shine, while softening - allowing for a new range of hair designs.

Black hairstyles are pretty & luxurious - & maintaining proper health & strength has enabled straightening, relaxing & perming to accelerate pretty styles without destroy & breaking.

Though used as an active ingredient in lots of hair products to increase cleansing, it is often combined with other "actives" such as Panthenol or Trichogen to soothe the scalp or increase hair growth.

Whether you are looking for smooth, straight & highlighted designs, or prefer short & natural, today's black hairstyles now provide pretty, celebrity-like selection with black hair care & advanced active ingredients.

Black Hairstyles - How to Make a Statement

Black Braided Hair Styles - Among the top black hair styles braided styles has to be in the top 10. Another form of braiding is Micro braiding. Micro braids are smaller in nature than regular braid. The braids are completed with a tiny overlapping pattern to form a skinny braid.

Italian roll Black Hair Style - the italian roll hairstyle is a sophisticated style were the hair is twirled drawn back & pinned up in a roll on the back of the head. This is a easy style & used more often when a women wants to get the hair off of her face. It is & a perfect style for those going on interviews.

Bob Hairstyles - The bob hairstyle is a classy look. But their are lots of bob styles to select from. A classic bob haircut is the jaw line bob hairstyle. The front face of the hair is cut short to the eyebrows & the sides are cut the the jaw line. The ends at the jaw lines are tapered up slightly to round off the style all around the head. The front is also rounded slightly.

The natural black hair style - the natural look is when women stop relaxing there hair & start using natural products that are chemical free. There's lots of styles to select from when striving for a natural hair style. Braiding is a common occurrence for those doing the natural hair style. It is easy to care for & the style look nice. There's a lot of products on the market to help. Be sure the read up on the product & find out how the product will react in your hair.

There's lots of black hair styles that I did not talk about. I scratched the surface. But I wanted to give a small background here.

Black Women Hairstyles Fashion

There are so many techniques for black hairstyles today. Short, long, in braids, or with a weave, your hair has its own unique style, and it’s your greatest accessory. The best black hair styles are designed to take advantage of black hair’s unique characteristics. Black hair is more fragile than most, requiring tender, loving care. The follicles and hair shaft are tightly curved, creating a naturally curly or kinky texture. With less oil production, black hair also tends to become dry and easily knotted.

There are the increasingly popular twists, braids, weaves, cornrows and dreads that celebrate cultural styles and natural black hair textures which have the added benefit of being much easier to maintain. If you are transitioning to a natural hair style from a chemical treated look, consider a straw set.

In a straw set, you use drinking straws or small perm rollers to wrap your hair in ringlets. Cornrow braiding, glues used to apply extensions, use of hair relaxers and other popular services may lead to hair and scalp problems. For women who favor Afros for a natural look, use of a pick to lift hair at its bushiest spots can cause damage.

Some stylists use the term natural hair to refer only to Afros, others use the term for any hair style without chemical treatment, including Afros, updos and all types of braids. Women who regularly use a hot comb to relax their hair may suffer progressive, irreversible hair loss, beginning at the crown and spreading across the entire head.

The different types of braided black hair styles available are nearly limitless. Cornrows are small, tight plaits, close to the scalp; locks or locs are small coils that grow into larger twisted coils. Twists are similar: groups of hair strands are twisted into soft plaits that drape. A lubricant, such as Aveda Humectant Pomade, is usually used for the twist.

Make sure you find someone you trust and that they understand the style you are going for. Hot curlers, hot combs, and color can all damage your hair and using more than one of these can make the problems exponentially worse. Since straightening your hair removes elasticity from the hair shafts, the straighter your hair is, the more fragile it will become.

Black Hairstyle Tips
1. Start by shampooing and conditioning your hair and then saturate it with a high quality hair setting lotion.
2. Part you hair into 1/4 to 1/2 inch sections and place end papers on the ends of your hair.
3. Roll your hair onto each straw and then secure them using hair pins.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 until you have completed your entire head.
5. Dry your hair under a hair dryer.
6. Remove the straws and separate each curl using your fingers.

Layered Ponytail Hairstyles For Fall 2008

Having long, luscious locks is a sign of personal pride for many women. However, long hair can seem out of hand if not styled properly. That’s why all the latest trends in long hair focus on healthy looking strands. For thinner hair, layers adds texture and life.

Layered Hair

Layers can also create face-framing pieces, which helps soften your jaw line and face shape. This is especially important with long hair, as a single-length style can clash with certain facial features. Another popular trend right now is to let your natural texture show withlong hair. This means showing off long, volumous waves and curls rather than attempting to straighten them away.

Also, braids have made a big comeback in long hairstyles and are now one of the hottest trends. Braids look best when hair is tied half-up rather than in one long braid. For an easier way to tie uplong hair, consider the sleek ponytail. Always a classic, wearing a low ponytail makes long hair look chic and elegant

Christina Aguilera Sexy Celebrity Hairstyles Fashion

Christina Aguilera has had so many different looks and colors, it's hard to believe she still has hair (I've heard rumors that she struggles with traction alopecia , and that her whole Old Hollywood look came about when she realized the big curls were one of the only styles that would cover up the bald spots.

And she started out so fresh and so clean.

Christina hated it. On some MTV show she talked about the struggle she had with record executives over the extensions she wore in her "Come on Over" video. Her hair was a figurative battleground (not quite literally...yet!)
